About
The name is a promise. Here is what it means.
What this is
Not A Lawyer helps someone in Queensland work out what has happened to them legally and where to go next. You tell it what happened in your own words. It explains how things usually work in Queensland, puts it on one page, and points you to a service or a lawyer that fits.
It gives general information, not legal advice. It will never tell you what will happen in your case. For that you need someone who can look at your situation, and we will help you find them.
Who runs it
Not A Lawyer is run by Blackletter Lab, a Queensland company that builds technology for legal services.
How the guides are written
- Every guide starts from the words people use, not the words in the legislation.
- Every fact, time limit and form comes from an official or authoritative source, listed at the end of the guide.
- Every guide is reviewed by a Queensland lawyer before it is marked as reviewed. Until then it says it is a draft.
- Guides show the date they were last checked. Laws change, so we check them again when the law does.
What we will not do
- We do not sell what you type, and nothing is passed to a lawyer unless you agree after seeing exactly what would be sent.
- We do not publish lawyer ratings, client reviews or success numbers until they are real and checked.
- We do not use urgency tricks. If something has a real time limit, the guide says so plainly.
If something is wrong
If you think a guide is out of date or wrong, please tell Blackletter Lab through its website. We would rather know.
